Rema 1000 Collaborates With Schulstad To Fight Food Waste

Rema 1000 has announced that it has joined forces with Danish bakery giant Schulstad to prevent food waste by encouraging customers to use leftover bread as an ingredient in their meals.

As part of the initiative, Rema 1000 and Schulstad are offering recipes where bread is used as an additional ingredient, or can be used as a substitute for meat.

'The Next Step'

Category manager at Rema 1000, Rikke Witting Thomsen, said, "We have previously introduced smaller pack sizes of bread to help our customers reduce food waste.

"Now, the next step is to find ways to use the bread that shoppers have at home, which is approaching its expiration date. Previous generations have been good at using leftovers in other ways so that everything is eaten, and that is the thinking we want again in relation to people's consumption of bread."

Rema 1000 and Schulstad are offering meal ideas that include solutions such as incorporating rye bread into a meatball recipe to prevent the last slices of bread from ending up in the trash can.
