Spanish Buying 7.5% More Vegetables: Nielsen

A study by Nielsen has revealed that Spanish people increased their vegetable consumption by 7.5% between May 2015 and April 2016, compared to the same period the previous year.

Nielsen evaluated fruit and vegetable prices and concluded that the Spanish prefer products which have remained low in price over time. Products that saw the biggest increase in sales were cucumbers and green beans, which decreased in price by between 2.7% and 3.8%.

This caused an increase in sales of these products of between 3.5% - 7%, Lavozdealmeria.es reports. Potatoes and peppers, however, saw a 5% drop in sales after prices in these categories increased by around 18%.

Nielsen also noted a 7.2% growth in fruit sales in Spain. In total, fruits and vegetables represent 11% of Spanish consumers' total purchases.
