Tesco Ireland Signs €60 Million Potato Deal

Tesco Ireland has announced that it extended its contract with North Dublin-based agribusiness Country Crest, in a deal worth over €60 million.

The agreement will see Country Crest continue to supply all potatoes, onions and sweet potatoes to Tesco's 149 stores across Ireland until 2020.

The family-owned company has been supplying Tesco Ireland for twenty years, and the new deal will see the supermarket chain source a further 65,000 tonnes of fresh produce, including four varieties of potatoes, two varieties of sweet potatoes, and eight different types of onions.

Establishing Partnerships

Tesco Ireland says that the extension of this partnership means it can provide customers with a consistent quality of fresh produce, and help local businesses.

“Our long history of partnering with Country Crest has helped to provide the confidence potato growers and the whole potato industry needs to invest and innovate for the future," said Sheila Gallagher, commercial director for Tesco Ireland.
