Arla To Introduce Milk Crates Made Of Recycled Plastic In Denmark

Dairy giant Arla has announced that is to introduce milk crates made of 100% recycled black plastic next year.

The initiative is in line with the dairy company's goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The plastic used for making the crates has been recycled from the automobile industry, and is therefore black in colour.

'The Greenest Choice'

Jakob B. Knudsen, head of Arla Denmark, commented, "We’re of course aiming to produce as few new milk crates as possible, but when new ones are needed, it’s important for us to make the greenest choice even though it means we have to go with a darker look."

Arla plans to introduce 30,000 new crates in its milk distribution system next year, a move which is expected to reduce carbon emissions by at least 30%.

Presently, Arla uses around 2-3 million milk crates in its operations in Denmark.

Every year, the company collects and reuses broken crates. Last year, it gathered around 100,000 milk crates as part of its annual collection programme.
