Denmark's Fakta Launches Plant-Based Carrier Bag

Danish retail chain Fakta, part of the Coop Danmark group, has launched a new plant-based shopping bag in its stores, produced from sugar cane-based polyethylene.

The group, which launched the new carrier bag today, 10 September, said that all components are bio-based and therefore climate-friendly.

They are on sale in Fakta stores for DKK 2.75 (€0.37), which is the same price as Fakta's ordinary, 80% recyclable plastic carrier bag.

Climate-Friendly

"We want to make it easier for our customers to be more climate-friendly when shopping in Fakta, without costing them extra," said John Hornbech Christensen, Fakta chain director.

"We know that consideration for the environment and climate plays an important part for customers."

Fakta has unveiled the new bags as part of a wider sustainability push and packaging overhaul by Coop Danmark.

In the past year, the group has sought to 'significantly expand' its range of organic products, with organic sales rising by 10% compared to the previous year.
