Edeka-Owned Marktkauf Celebrates 50th Birthday

Marktkauf, a subsidiary of Edeka, is celebrating 50 years of being in business this year.

The retailer is set to surprise customers with special campaigns throughout the year as a thank you for their loyalty.

In addition to anniversary offers, customers can look forward to contests offering shopping vouchers and other attractive prizes.

The year 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the first Marktkauf hypermarkets in Germany.

'Quality Is A Tradition'

Ralf Worlitschek, division manager of the 13 independently operated Marktkauf stores of Edeka Nordbayern-Sachsen-Thüringen, said, "Quality is a tradition in the Edeka group. We are pleased to continue the success story of 50 years of Marktkauf and to celebrate this anniversary together with our customers."

The Marktkauf company, founded as a regional consumer cooperative, initially operated stores in Osnabrück and Bielefeld.

The chain has been part of the Edeka Group since 2007, with 13 of the 14 department stores operating as independently managed GmbHs as subsidiaries of the EDEKA Nordbayern-Sachsen-Thüringen Stiftung & Co. KG.

From the eastern Bautzen in Saxony to Nuremberg in Middle Franconia, the region of North Bavaria-Saxony-Thuringia is represented with a total of 14 hypermarkets, employing around 1,600 people and 41 trainees.

Regional Food

Regional foods play an important role at Marktkauf. The stores offer seasonal fruit and vegetables from regional farmers, and eggs, dairy products, meat, bread and baked goods sourced from local suppliers.

Customers can also find a wide range of non-food products at Marktkauf, ranging from toys to pans, washing machines to socks, and coffee machines to notepads.

As part of the chain's motto 'Unser Heimvorteil – Gutes von hier' (Our home advantage - good things from here), the retailer tries to sell a large number of items from within 30 kilometers of its stores, supporting well-known local suppliers.
