Lidl Italia Introduces Household Products With 95% Recycled Plastic
Lidl Italia has introduced its first line of household products made with 95% recycled plastic.
The range is made by PreZero, the environmental division of Lidl's parent organisation, the Schwarz Group.
PreZero is responsible for recovering plastic waste, transforming it into regenerated PP (polypropylene) granules, which are used to make buckets, coat hangers, storage containers, and many other everyday products.
Replacing virgin plastic with recycled plastic is seen as an essential contribution to climate and environmental protection.
As a result of Lidl's initiative, 1,465 tonnes of plastic waste has attained a 'second life'.
This project represents an example of an inter-group circular economy and the entire product cycle, starting from the recovery of plastic waste to its final transformation, is based in Europe.
As part of the REset Plastic strategy, Lidl has pledged to reduce the use of plastic in the packaging of its private label products by 20% by 2025 and make 100% of the packaging recyclable by the same date.
