Lidl To Open Sustainable Store With Daycare Facility In Baden-Württemberg

German discounter Lidl has announced that it has commenced construction of a sustainable store with a daycare facility in Bietigheim-Bissingen in Baden-Württemberg.

The upper floor of the store will house a 1,400 square metre daycare centre with modern facilities and sufficient play area for around 62 children.

The store will not rely on fossil fuels for its energy requirements and the building will be equipped with a photovoltaic system, the retailer said.

'Additional Childcare Facilities'

Mayor of the city of Bietigheim-Bissingen, Jürgen Kessing, said, “We are pleased that Lidl is combining its new branch building with the construction of a daycare centre.

“In this way, we will be able to offer additional childcare [facilities] in our growing city as early as next year. In addition, a built-up area is used sensibly and sustainably several times."

The parking lot will offer a charging station for electric vehicles and 139 parking spots.

The store is designed to offer a larger sales area and wider aisles for better customer experience, Lidl added.
