Mercadona Adds Two New Flavours To Its Potato Crisps Range

Spanish retailer Mercadona has added two new flavours to its potato crisps range under the Hacendado private label brand.

These include Pollo Asado al Limón (roast chicken flavour with lemon and chili) and Chili y Lima (Chilli and Lime).

The former is manufactured by Rubio Snacks in Bullas, Murcia, while El Valle makes the latter in Villena, Alicante.

The Pollo Asado al Limón is characterised by a unique flavour with a hint of lemon, and Chili y Lima offers an initial hint of spicy chilli, which is balanced by the taste of lime.

Both flavours have been developed in collaboration with customers through co-innovation sessions held both in Spain and Portugal.

Profit Sharing

In March of this year, Mercadona shared €409 million of its 2020 profits with its entire workforce of 90,000 employees.

Some €366 million was distributed in March, on top of the €43 million from April 2020 that employees received in recognition of their commitment and effort during the beginning of the pandemic.

The retailer also plans to invest more than €140 million over the next five years to implement measures to reduce the use of plastics in its operations as part of its Strategy 6.25 initiative.

Most recently, the retailer replaced disposable single-use plastic kitchenware across all stores with sustainable alternatives made with environmentally friendly materials such as cardboard, wood, sugar cane, as well as reusable plastic.

Mercadona said that the move marked the completion of the second component of Mercadona's Strategy 6.25 initiative.
