Nestlé To Launch 100% Recyclable Packaging For Baby Food Products

Nestlé has announced that it is to introduce recyclable single-material pouches for certain baby food products.

In the US, its early childhood nutrition brand Gerber will introduce the new pouch for its organic banana mango puree in May of this year.

It will be sold exclusively on and recycled through Gerber's national recycling programme in association with TerraCycle.

In Finland, baby food company Piltti, a subsidiary of Nestlé, will roll out the packaging for one of its popular products.

'An Important Milestone'

Thierry Philardeau, head of the nutrition strategic business unit at Nestlé, said, "This launch is an important milestone on how we execute our ambition to create a wider market for recycled plastics that are safe for food.

"We will continue to work with other stakeholders to ensure that the infrastructure needed to recycle matches material innovation,"

The pouches, made from polypropylene (PP), will allow the food giant to make more plastics infinitely recyclable.

Nestlé has pledged to make 100% of its packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025.
