New European Paper Recycling Campaign Launched
A new two-year initiative has been launched to improve paper recycling figures in low recycling rate countries, as well promoting separate collection for paper recycling.
The IMPACTPapeRec project is a pan-European scheme aimed at encouraging countries with low paper recycling rates such as Bulgaria, Poland and Romania to adopt best practices. It will also seek solutions for countries such as the UK and France where paper is mixed with other recycled products.
The project is financed by the European Union Horizon 2020 programme, an €80 billion programme aimed at discovering breakthroughs to create new growth and employment.
Antonio Dobon from the project co-ordinator ITENE, a research institute for packaging, transport and logistics said, “We are very excited about the start of this project. It comes at a time when the European Commission presented its proposal for the circular economy stressing the importance of separate collection.
"With this project we will work to reach the recycling targets in those territories that are below average."
