Smurfit Kappa Renews Partnership with Concours International Wine In Box Contest

Smurfit Kappa has announced that it will partner with the Concours International Wine in Box contest for the second time.

The packaging company was involved in the event’s first iteration last year, and has decided to renew its involvement this year to promote its Bag-in-Box design.

Bag-in-Box is a wine packaging system developed by Smurfit Kappa that it claims can maintain the quality and properties of the wine for up to eight weeks after opening. Thanks to the specially designed tap, the wine is protected from oxidation, and the packaging may also enable savings in transport and storage costs.

The company is hoping that by partnering with the event, it can encourage the move upmarket of Bag-In-Box wines.

The contest itself will take place in Toulouse, France, on March 18 and, in order to participate, producers must send in a sample of their wine in a Bag-in-Box. A jury of professional and amateur wine tasters will then judge the samples and determine which of them deserve the title: “Best Wine in Box”.

Last year, 250 producers from 12 different countries participated, with 74 wines winning “Best Wine in Box”.
