65 Per Cent Of Australians Buy Private Label Products: Canstar Blue

The number of Australian consumers who purchase private label products has gone up from 44 per cent to 65 per cent in just the second half of 2015, according to research conducted by Canstar Blue, SmartCompany.com.au reports.

The survey of 3,000 Australians also asked its participants to state their favourite supermarket chain for everyday private label essentials. Aldi was selected by popular vote as the preferred retailer for wholemeal bread, white bread, eggs and butter.

Private label products from Aldi, Woolworths and Coles are viewed as “good value” by about 75 per cent of Australian shoppers. In June 2015, the statistic stood at 59 per cent.

“What we know is that price is king really but in terms of the private label debate it’s not all about the price because ultimately the supermarkets have to find the perfect combination between quality and value,” a Canstar Blue spokesperson said.

“Really the Aldi factor has helped to make consumers more price conscious.”
