Ioniki Sfoliata SA has been named the winner of the Frozen Food category in the 2018 European Private Label Awards.
Ioniki won the award for its Lidl Eridanous Spinach and Cheese Swirl Pie and Lidl Eridanous Mini Sesame & Cheese Pies with Oregano, produced for Lidl and available across the discounter's European operations.
Both the Eridanous Mini Sesame and Cheese Pies with Oregano and the Eridanous Spinach and Cheese Swirl are inspired by Greek cooking traditions, using authentic Greek ingredients.
Eridanous is Lidl’s in- house Greek product range, located in the frozen section, which seeks to take advantage of the rising popularity of Greek food abroad. Now available in 19 European countries, the range doubled its sales between 2016 and 2017.
Judges for the awards, which included some of Europe's top private label experts, described the product as a "really good concept with effective packaging. The food itself is tasty and crispy, and is enough to feed a whole family, making it great value for money.”
