Portugal's Continente To Increase Producer Club Members

Portuguese retailer Continente has announced plans to increase the number of suppliers that are members of its Continente Producers Club (CPC), in order to help producers maintain sales during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Continente Producers Club, which is operated by the Sonae-owned retailer, boasts 200 members and incorporates producer organisations, individual farmers, and family businesses with production operations in various areas.

Commenting on the announcement, Ondina Afonso, president of the Continente Producers Club, said, “In this emergency period, in which action is required close to our producers, we intend to promote the integration of new members, guaranteeing all strict safety and quality procedures."

Food distribution has been identified as a critical service by the Portuguese government, and Sonae has committed to keeping stores open.

The Continente Producers Club supports local and small-scale producers, which in turn are featured in ‘Products from the Region’ displays in selected outlets.
