Rewe Introduces Alipay In Billa, Merkur, And Bipa Stores

Germany's Rewe Group has announced that Billa, Merkur, and Bipa stores in Austria will now accept payments through the Alipay payment platform.

Alipay, an affiliate of China's Alibaba Group, has over 1.2 billion users across the world, making it one of the largest digital payment services platforms.

The retailer has teamed up with an Austrian mobile payment provider, Bluecode, to implement the service.

How It Works

To avail of the service, customers are required to install the free-to-download Alipay app.

Customers then scan a once-valid barcode with their mobile phones at the cashier.

The due amount is then debited from the user's linked account or credit card.
