Roncadin Restarts Frozen Pizza Production Following Fire

Italian frozen pizza company Roncadin has restarted production after a major fire damaged its facilities last month, reports Corriere della Sera.

Based in Meduno, near Pordenone, Roncadin is one of the leading producers of private label frozen pizza for both the Italian and international markets. It produces over 459 types of pizza, 81% of which are exported, mainly to the UK, Germany and the US.

The factory employs over 500 workers, and usually produces 390,000 pizzas every day, for an annual turnover of €97 million.

Fire Recovery

Pizza production at Roncadin's plant restarted four days after a fire destroyed 6,000 square metres of the facility.

The flames hit production lines 1, 2, 3 and 4, causing about €50 million in damages, while only lines 5 and 6 were unaffected.

CEO Dario Roncadin said that work has gradually restarted, and the goal is to get to 237,000 pizzas a day. This figure will progressively increase, until the manufacturing plant returns to its capacity of two million pizzas per week.

Roncadin added that the company intends to invest an additional €35 million in two new production lines.
