Sales Of Refrigerated Sandwiches Fall By 30% In Mercadona

Spanish retailer Mercadona has seen a 30% decline in the sales of refrigerated sandwiches following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The retailer attributed this decline to change in consumer habits as Spain entered a national lockdown on 16 April to contain the spread of the virus.

Prior to the epidemic, these sandwiches were mainly consumed at work or other out-of-home locations like parks, the retailer added.

The sandwiches, sold under the Hacendado brand, are supplied by Totaler Productos Naturales de la Vega in Lodosa, Navarra.

The range offers mixed sandwiches, as well as salmon, tuna, egg and tomato, turkey, and cheese and spinach variants.
