Ahold Delhaize Ranks High In Sustainability Index

The 2016 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI World) has ranked the retail group Ahold Delhaize, based in The Netherlands, as 'industry leader' in the sector 'Food and Staples Retailing'. The DJSI was established in 1999, as a global benchmark for sustainability.

The new company scored 79 points, well above the sector's  industry average of 44 points. It performed particularly well in the categories of health & nutrition, raw-material sourcing and development of human resources - measured against economic, environmental and social criteria.

"Inclusion in the Index strengthens my belief that as Ahold Delhaize, our combined brands can make an ever bigger difference in local communities – and the world. Our brands share a commitment to have a positive impact on the lives of customers, associates and the communities we serve. We will continue to develop our sustainable retailing strategy, with a focus on promoting healthier eating, reducing food waste and creating healthy, inclusive workplaces", said Dick Boer, CEO of Ahold Delhaize.

The Ahold and Delhaize Groups merged in July 2016. Both companies had strong track records in sustainability.
