Albert Heijn Named Most Sustainable Dutch Supermarket Chain

Dutch retailer Albert Heijn has been named the most sustainable supermarket chain in the Netherlands, according to a new study.

The retailer came in at number nine overall, marking the second year in a row that it was the highest retailer in the rankings.

The award was announced during the presentation of this year’s Sustainable Brands Awards in Amsterdam.

The Award winners are compiled from an independent annual survey of 5,000 Dutch consumers, which assesses the sustainability of well-known brands in the country.

Nordic Survey

The survey is carried out across several more Northern European countries, including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Lithuania with a total of over 40,000 consumer interviews.

On behalf of Albert Heijn, Marit van Egmond, commercial director at Albert Heijn, received the award, commenting, "We are very proud and naturally honoured to win this consumer award for the second time in a row.

“It is the appreciation of the Dutch consumer for all the efforts of our growers and farmers, our suppliers and partners. Together with all our employees we take steps every time for a more sustainable society.

"From our role and ambition we also want to inspire our customers every day and help them make healthier and more sustainable choices."
