Albert Heijn Removes Added Salt From Own-Brand Legumes

Dutch retailer Albert Heijn has announced that it has removed added salt from its private-label legume preserves.

The range includes kidney beans, chickpeas, black beans, cannellini beans, black-eyed beans, and borlotti beans.

The retail giant will also remove added sugar from nine of its apple sauce varieties.

The move will reduce the consumption of at least 4.5 million sugar cubes on an annual basis.

The products will bear a 0%-sugar-added or 0%-salt-added indication, the retailer reported.

The retailer aims to inspire customers to opt for healthier food options on a daily basis.

In recent years, Albert Heijn has reduced the quantity of sugar, salt and saturated fats in many food items without compromising on the taste.
