Aldi Arrives In Milan, Opening Two Stores

Aldi Italia has opened its first stores in Milan, unveiling two outlets – one near the city's Central Station and the other in the Giambellino area.

The discounter's debut in Milan marks an important step in the company’s expansion plans and follows store openings in neighbouring areas such as Pioltello, Magenta and Segrate.

Store Format

Conceived for metropolitan areas, Aldi's new concept stores are smaller than the retailer's standard store format. Designed to fit into an urban context, they are located in strategic and easily accessible locations.

Aldi's outlet near Milan Central Station is just over 500 square metres and aims to become a reference point for both travellers and residents.

The second outlet is located on one of the main arteries of city traffic and covers about 650 square metres of sales area.

Customers will be able to choose among 120 fruit and vegetable SKUs, while 85% of the store assortment is from the retailer’s own private label ranges, and 75% of food products come from selected Italian suppliers.

Both stores are supplied from the group’s new logistics centre in Landriano near Pavia, which opened in May 2020.

New Openings

In addition to the two Milan stores, Aldi Italia also opened its first store in Villorba near Treviso, taking its national store total to 93.

Aldi Italia is aiming to surpass 100 stores by the end of 2020, as part of its investment plan.
