Aldi Nord Launches Coffee From Cooperative Supporting Women In Peru

Aldi Nord has rolled out organic and Fairtrade-certified coffee under the name 'Hermanas del Café' from the 'La Florida' cooperative, which supports women involved in coffee production in Peru.

'La Florida' aims to empower women to achieve greater economic and social independence.

The cooperative supports women across various levels, from granting micro-credits to organising training programmes.

It also assists in the areas of education, health, or sustainable cultivation methods.

In addition, Fairtrade and organic certifications ensure that the production process aligns with important social and ecological standards.

Sustainable Supply Chain

By selling coffee from the 'La Florida' cooperative, Aldi Nord wants to contribute further to building a more sustainable and improved coffee production chain in developing countries.

The Fairtrade premium goes directly to the cooperative and benefits women and families in Peru.

Managing director of category management at Aldi Nord, Tobias Heinbockel, said, "We are pleased to be able to make a targeted and efficient sustainable contribution to local women through our cooperation with 'La Florida'."

Fairtrade Products

In 2012, Aldi Nord pledged to include Fairtrade-certified goods and support projects in developing countries.

Its Fairtrade range includes bananas, coffee, tea, juices, honey and chocolate.

The retailer offers around 160 own-brand SKUs with Fairtrade certification in the test, seasonal, special offer, or standard product ranges.
