Carrefour Partners With Property Developer Altarea

Carrefour is set to work alongside property developer Altarea on three urban development projects in Nantes, Sartrouville, and Flins/Aubergenville, in France.

Carrefour co-owns the sites, which total approximately 25 hectares, and through the partnership, it plans to transforming the locations into hubs where people congregate, in addition to their primary commercial purpose.

Jérôme Nanty, Carrefour's head of assets and executive director for human resources, outlined the group position that "retail needs to play more of an urban and social role."

Nanty added that the collaboration with Altarea will help "create new neighbourhoods that meet the new expectations of our customers and residents, by pooling our expertise."

Integrated Builds

Altarea has a long history of working on mixed projects, and will bring its expertise and experience gained from working on integrated model builds.

Currently, the group is undertaking such projects in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Bezons, and Bobigny, and is working with locals to find solutions that fit their needs.

Jacques Ehrmann, managing director of the Altarea Group, said it shares a "vision of what the city of the future should look like with the Carrefour group", and believes the collaboration will transform the selected areas into "mixed, lively and animated neighbourhoods"
