Carrefour Brasil Sees 5.5% Sales Growth In Q3

Consolidated gross sales at Carrefour Brasil Group in the third quarter of 2017 grew by 5.5%, excluding gasoline, to BRL 12.24 billion (€3.26 billion).

Like-for-like (LFL) sales were up by 1.1% in the period.

The group's wholesale discount unit, Atacadão, saw a 5.6% increase in gross sales to BRL 8.5 billion, despite the strong impact of food deflation and falling commodity prices. LFL sales increased by 1.6% year-on-year.

Meanwhile, gross sales at the Carrefour unit increased 5% to BRL 3.7 billion. Non-food sales, in particular electronics such as TVs and smartphones, continued to experience a strong performance in the quarter with double-digit growth.

Expansion Plans

After a long renovation period, Carrefour opened the Jardim Pamplona hypermarket store at the end of July, which will act as the concept store for Carrefour Group in Brazil

Internationally, Carrefour Group reported sales of €21.9 billion in the third quarter, representing a 1.9% increase compared to the same period last year. In the company's home market of France, however, Carrefour's sales dropped 1.3% to €10,042 million.

Last month, Carrefour Group chairman and CEO Alexandre Bompard announced the appointment of a new chief executive committee, which included the appointment of Noël Prioux as the new CEO of Carrefour Brasil.
