Convenience Stores Provide Good Starting Point For Career: NACS

According to a study by the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS), around 86% of Americans feel that convenience stores are a good place to start a career.

The survey also found that the same percentage of Americans consider a convenience store job as a great opportunity for high school and college students.

The online study was conducted by Penn Schoen Berland (PSB) between 13 September and 16 September of this year.

The respondents comprised around 1,504 US-based adults, who purchase fuel for a vehicle like a car, truck or van at least once every month.

Equal Opportunities

Around 71% of respondents felt that jobs at convenience stores provide equal opportunity for those without a formal education.

According to 70% of those surveyed, it is common for employees who demonstrate a commitment to their roles to grow in the organisation, or to open their own stores in the long run.

NACS vice-president of strategic industry initiatives, Jeff Lenard, said, “Our 2018 survey results are in line with results from similar NACS surveys over each of the past two years that found that convenience store jobs can provide a valuable opportunity to learn business skills that can be applied throughout someone’s career.”

“Focus group interviews that we conducted earlier this year with past c-store employees affirmed the hugely positive attributes of how their c-store jobs helped them grow their business skills,” Lenard added.

Valuable Experience

The study also found that more than one in seven Americans have worked in a convenience store, and they would recommend the same to others.
