Colruyt's DATS 24 Enters The Energy Market

DATS 24, the renewable fuel supplier of Colruyt Group, has entered the energy market and will supply natural gas and green electricity to consumers.

Colruyt Group has been meeting its own energy needs with green electricity for years now, and via Eoly, the group supplies electricity to a few large companies as well.

Belgian Electricity

DATS 24 is now set to launch the next step by supplying natural gas and 100% green, Belgian electricity to private customers and families in Flanders and Wallonia.

Recently, DATS 24 launched this offer to all Colruyt Group workers, attracting more than 1,500 customers.

The group produces electricity through wind turbines in Halle and the surrounding area, as well as wind farms in the North Sea.

Belgian energy minister, Tinne Van der Straeten, is particularly pleased that a new local player is entering the market.

"This is an excellent thing for the consumer who gets an additional choice for a local player that supplies 100% Belgian and 100% green energy," Van der Straeten said and added, "A clear formula and corresponding tariff contribute to a simpler energy bill. This way, the consumer does not get entangled in a multitude of options."

A Different Experience

DATS 24 hopes to provide customers with a different experience by offering customers the option to choose the source of their energy.

These include the wind farm in Halle, the wind farms in the North Sea, or the biogas plant of Vanheede Environment Group in Quiévy.

DATS 24 offers one single formula with variable price-fixing, whereby the customer can choose from three products: electricity, natural gas, or a combination of both.

About three-fourths of customers picked the combination formula during the pilot DATS 24 organised with the group's employees.

Long-Term Variable Contracts

The most recent CREG report with the annual price monitoring revealed that long-term variable contracts always guarantee lower rates for users, which is the formula that the energy provider proposes to its customers.

Raf Flebus, business unit manager at DATS 24, said the group offers "simplicity and certainty as well as attractive pricing in the long term."

"The variable formula turned out to be the most profitable formula for Colruyt Group all these years. So I really believe it is the best formula for our customers as well," Flebus concluded.
