DIA's Clarel To Function As Independent Business Unit

Spanish retailer DIA has announced that its personal and home care chain Clarel will function as an independent business unit within the company.

The retail group has appointed Paul Berg as the chief executive of the new unit. He will report directly to the recently-appointed group CEO, Karl-Heinz Holland.

Clarel operates around 1,300 stores in Spain and Portugal, and Berg will be responsible for leading the sales growth of the unit.

Core Business Activities

The move will enable Clarel and DIA to operate separately, thereby focusing exclusively on core business activities.

Karl-Heinz Holland, CEO of DIA Group, said, "Creating an independent business unit will [allow] Clarel to develop as a brand. Without a doubt, Paul Berg's great professional experience will help us make Clarel a benchmark for our customers."
