Russia's Dixy To Introduce Tobacco Shops In Moscow Stores

Russian retailer Dixy has announced a pilot project to reconfigure one of the checkout lanes in its stores into a shop selling tobacco and premium alcohol.

The project has been launched in 15 Dixy outlets in Moscow, and the retailer says that product turnover in these pilot stores has increased by an average of 30%.

“The neighborhood store format implies offering an assortment of the most in-demand products, including those in the tobacco category," said Oleg Zhunikov, deputy general director for business operations at Dixy Group.

Expansion

The assortment of products available in Dixy stores will be doubled with the new shops, offering over 120 tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, accessories and alcoholic beverages, including those under the chain's own brands.

"By expanding our offer we have an opportunity to attract customers who were previously unable to find their favorite brand in our store. Besides, allocation of a special area will allow us to tighten the control over sales of tobacco and alcoholic products to minors,” said Zhunikov.

The retailer plans to open more of these specialised shops in its stores across Russia.
