Finnish Consumer Confidence Remains Subdued In December, Study Finds

Consumer confidence in Finland remained subdued in December, albeit at a slightly higher level than the previous month, according to new data from Tilastokeskus (Statistics Finland).

The consumer confidence indicatory stood at -4.2 in December, which was an improvement on the -5.0 in November and -6.6 in October.

However, consumer confidence was lower than a year earlier, in December 2018, when the indicator stood at -2.2. The average of the indicator since 1998 is -1.9.

Personal Finances

Finnish consumer expectations about the state of their personal finances remained broadly unchanged in December, however consumers were slightly less likely to spend money, the statistics showed.

Consumers also had a slightly more negative outlook about the state of the Finnish economy, believing that the unemployment situation in Finland would worsen in the future.

The findings were taken from Tilastokeskus consumer confidence survey, which asked 1,060 people in Finland for their perspective on the state of the economy and their current financial situation.
