Home Care, Frozen Food Sales Remain Elevated, IRI Consumer Tracker Finds

Sales of home care and frozen food products remain 'elevated' in most geographies, however other food and non-food categories have shown lower like-for-like sales, according to the latest edition of the IRI COVID-19 Consumer Spending Tracker.

The latest weekly report, which covers the period to 19 April, found that Italy and the UK did not see as much 'hoarding' behaviour as in previous weeks.

E-Commerce Growth

E-commerce continues to show strong growth in Italy, France and Spain, the report found, with shoppers shifting their purchasing patterns from in-store to online.

In all three markets, there has been a consistent, increasing shift to e-commerce since the beginning of the crisis, with a focus on click and collect, IRI said.

In the US, meanwhile, shoppers are purchasing less frequently, but are buying more per trip, both to stock up their supplies of essential goods and purchase more fresh foods.
