Discounter Lidl To Open First Stores In Serbia Next Week

Discounter Lidl is to commence trading in Serbia next week, with the opening of 16 stores across 12 cities.

The group, known locally as Lidl Srbija, will start operations on 11 October in Belgrade, Bor, Zrenjanin, Kragujevac, Leskovac, Nis, Novi Sad, Smederevo, Sombor, Subotica, Uzice and Sabac.

Seven more store openings are planned until the end of the year, as Lidl Srbija announces further expansion of the retail network.

Store Assortment

Lidl has prepared an assortment of 1,500 SKUs for its Serbian outlets, of which 350 locally sourced, including unique Lidl brands, as well as products from domestic suppliers. As well as food, consumers will also be able to find products such as small home appliances, textiles, toys, tools, home decor, gardening equipment and more.

Lidl’s stores in Serbia have been built based on the discounter's new store concept, rolled out in other markets across Europe, which features a more modern design, bigger sales space, more natural light, greater energy efficiency and a more attractive appearance.

In the process of building its stores, Lidl Srbija actively engaged with 200 subcontractors, including design, supervisory and contracting firms, from the Serbian construction industry.

Some 1,500 employees have already joined the Lidl Srbija team, with more appointments planned as the retailer expands its operations.

Lidl has pledged to offer Serbian consumers the same best price-quality relationship that it has already implemented in other markets.
