Lidl Plans To Open 12 New Stores, Create 500 Jobs In Scotland

German discounter Lidl is set to open 12 new stores in Scotland, creating around 500 new jobs, reports Retail Gazette.

Presently, the discounter is construction new stores in Dumbarton, Dundee, East Kilbride, Cowdenbeath, and Larkhall.

It also hopes to open a new distribution centre in North Lanarkshire by November of this year, which will replace its existing warehouse in Livingston.

Store Launch

Most recently, Lidl inaugurated a new store in Paisley. It is relocating its outlets in Alloa and Bathgate as part of its regeneration programme, the report said.

Lidl regional director Ross Millar said that the retail group is excited about the launch of its 100th store next year, which reflects the company's ambitious growth plans.

Lidl first entered the Scottish market 25 years ago, and presently employs more than 2,200 people in the 98 stores it operates in the country.
