Musgrave Calls For Increased Use Of Card Payments: Reports

Musgrave Group wrote to the Irish government asking it to encourage increased use of card payments in stores, in order to reduce costs for retailers, the Irish Independent has reported.

The Cork-based retail group made a submission to a recent Department of Finance consultation on interchange fees, the paper reported, in which it said that a reduction in fees on debit card transactions "will increase retailers' willingness to encourage card transactions".

The retailer added, “"A growth in card transactions over time will reduce our economy's reliance on cash, leading to significant savings for businesses and the State.

"From a consumer perspective card transactions are also cheaper than withdrawing cash.”

As part of the ‘National Payments Plan’, the Department of Finance said that it is actively encouraging increased card usage in stores.
