Nestlé To Roll Out Plant-Based Sausages In Europe And The US

Nestlé has announced that it is to launch plant-based sausages that look, taste, and cook like their meat-based counterparts in Europe and the United States.

The initiative is part of Nestlé's pledge to offer more delicious and nutritious plant-based food items that have a low environmental footprint.

European Launch

The food giant will introduce the soy-based Garden Gourmet Incredible Sausage in bratwurst and chorizo variants in Europe.

The sausages will be introduced in 11 European markets, including Austria, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland, from March 2020.

The company will also launch a variant of the product for restaurants and foodservice companies to cater to out-of-home customers.

Wayne England, the head of Nestlé's food business, said, "These plant-based sausages deliver on flavour and texture. Their juiciness and firm bite mean you can cook and enjoy them any way you like, including grilling, roasting or pan-frying."

The US Market

In the US, Nestlé will launch the pea protein-based Sweet Earth Sausages in April, in three variants – Habanero Cheddar, Asian Ginger Scallion, and Chik’n Apple.

As in Europe, Nestlé plans to offer a version of the products for the foodservice industry. It will also launch a range of plant-based deli meats in the US, in pre-packaged cases as well as deli counters.
