Netto Marken-Discount Commences Trial Of E-Trucks In Hamburg

Netto Marken-Discount is testing a fully electric truck for transporting and delivering goods to its outlets in Hamburg.

The move also supports test runs for Mercedes-Benz eActros to achieve a clean and quiet mode of transport in urban areas.

Head of corporate communications at Netto Marken-Discount, Christina Stylianou said, "Netto has long been committed to continuously reducing energy consumption and making the supply chain more sustainable.

"This also includes the constant optimisation of our logistics processes. With the electric truck, we want to test a new way of further reducing CO2 emissions on the roads."

Pilot Project

The truck used in the pilot has a range of around 200 kilometres and a gross vehicle weight of 26 tonnes.

It is locally CO2-neutral and can operate on routes that are restricted by diesel driving bans.

The truck is equipped with a fast-charging process and can be fully recharged within two hours.

As part of the pilot, the vehicle will undertake three to four tours per day, covering distances of over 100 kilometres, and transport dry goods, fruit and vegetables, as well as dairy products.

The e-truck also has a refrigerated swap case for items that need cooling.

'Intensive Customer Testing'

Patrick Gentner, key account manager at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, said, "We are very pleased that Netto Marken-Discount, our long-standing and valued partner, is now also taking part in the intensive customer testing of the Mercedes-Benz eActros for heavy-duty distribution transport.

"Urban transport of chilled food, in particular, is an important application for the battery-electric eActros, which is now making great strides towards series production in the coming year."
