Rewe Group CEO Caparros To Step Down From Retailer In June

The chief executive of Rewe Group, Alain Caparros, has brought forward his planned resignation from the role to 30 June of this year, in agreement with the retailer's supervisory board.

Caparros's departure had originally been scheduled for the start of 2019, with his contract due to run until the end of 2018, however, this has been changed, with Lionel Souque now set to take over the running of the Cologne-based group at the start of July of this year. In addition, Jan Kunath has been named the group's deputy chief executive from 1 July.

Positive Review

In a statement, Caparros said that, following his eleven years as CEO, Rewe Group is now in "excellent shape", having achieved "record results" in both sales and earnings last year. Therefore, the time was right for him to hand over to new leadership.

"I am convinced that the Rewe Group is now much better off than in 2006," he said. "We have managed to give this company, its merchants and employees excellent economic prospects for the coming decade."

Special Thanks

Caparros also offered his "special thanks to the board of the Rewe Group for their excellent, trustful cooperation in the past, and that they have agreed to my request for an amicable termination of my office to the middle of this year".
