Spar Sri Lanka has announced the continued expansion its its operations with the opening of a new store in Negombo, around 40 kilometres north of the capital, Colombo.
The store is the sixth to open in Sri Lanka, and features a retail sales space of 569 square metres.
The store boasts a strong fresh food offering, Spar said in a statement, with hot kitchen, butchery, bakery, coffee shop, ready-meals, and fresh produce sections located around the perimeter of the store. In addition, a broad gourmet food offering features both local and international products.
The store has been optimised in terms of energy consumption, with low-energy refrigeration units installed – a key element of Spar Sri Lanka's sustainability strategy.
'The continued expansion of the brand’s presence across the island is bringing internationally renowned formal retail to an ever-growing range of consumers," Spar said in a statement. 'There are plans in place to open more stores, increasing the support to local communities and Spar Sri Lanka’s support for local producers.'
Spar entered Sri Lanka in 2017, following the granting of a licence to Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL Group) to operate the brand in conjunction with Spar Group South Africa.
