Spar Hungary Posts 4.6% Sales Growth In 2016

Spar Hungary has reported a 4.6% growth in sales to €1.65 billion in 2016, following the opening of 46 new stores across the country, including 22 Spar Express forecourt outlets.

Last year marked the retailer’s 25th anniversary in Hungary. The year was "especially significant for the expansion of the network", according to Spar Hungary’s head of communication, Mark Maczelka.

Independent Retailers

Spar reported a growing amount of partnerships with independent retailers in the past year, with figures rising by 25% to bring the total number of partners to more than 80.

In particular, Spar supports Hungarian independent retailers with various measures such as marketing, advertising and promotional support,  as well as access to Spar’s IT system and SuperShop loyalty initiative.

Upward Trend

Spar Hungary has continued its upward trend in 2017, adding 13 new outlets to the existing network of 129 stores during the first five months of the year. Six of the new stores are integrated within petrol forecourts and are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The new openings have created almost 1,500 new jobs and generated an annual turnover of more than 30 billion HUF (€97.5 million).
