Spar Hungary To Introduce Compostable Bags

In a move to step up its sustainability efforts, Spar Hungary has announced that it will introduce degradable and compostable bags.

The company will also invest in environmentally friendly bags made of recycled PET plastic.

Apart from plastic shopping bags, customers at Spar Hungary also have access to paper bags, paper cooler bags, and non-woven multipurpose eco-friendly bags.

Encouraging Results

In 2017, as a part of its ‘responsible retailing’ initiative, the company collected 583 tonnes of glass waste at its collection points.

Four years ago, Spar and INTERSPAR stores across Hungary introduced collection points for glass and paper waste.

In the period between 2014 to 2017, the volume of recycled cardboard and paper waste material at Spar Hungary increased by 20%.

Eco-friendly initiatives are a part of the company’s vision and are an integral part of its retail network, logistics centre, food industry plants and work processes.
