Svetofor Rolls Out New Store Format In Serbia

Russian hard discounter Svetofor has rolled out its second store format in Serbia in Subotica and Kruševac.

Previously, Svetofor opened two stores in Serbia under the MERE banner.

The first store opened last December in Batajnica, on Belgrade's outskirts, followed by a second in the northern city of Vršac at the end of February.

According to the Kruševac Grad portal, the new Svetofor supermarket in Kruševac has a retail area of 1,150 square metres. The retailer also plans to open a new store this spring.

The store in Subotica is spread across a 1,200 square metre area and is the first of three in this city, reports the Subotica.info.

Both stores currently offer a limited assortment comprising 400 products from 40 local producers due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Svetofor aims to offer around 1,500 food and home care products, mainly from Russia and Belarus, and promising 20% cheaper prices compared to the competition.

Upcoming Svetofor store openings in Serbia include the cities of Požarevac and Novi Pazar.

Svetofor, owned by Siberian-based company Torgservis, is represented in Serbia by local unit Beltorg and plans to open 15 outlets in the country.
