Tesco Unveils Wicked Kitchen Plant-Based Condiment Range

Tesco has unveiled a range of plant-based condiments as part of its Wicked Kitchen private label range, to meet demand for more vegan options in this category.

The retailer made the move following data that showed sales of plant-based food growing 37% in the past year (IRI to November 2019), while Hellmann's Vegan Mayo was one of the most popular sauces last year, seeing sales rise by 400%.

There are six sauces in the Wicked Kitchen condiment range, including Wicked Dreamy Beetroot Dressing, Wicked Mazin’ Mango Sauce, Wicked Hella’ Horseradish and Mustard Sauce, Wicked Sriracha Sauce, Wicked Sticky Teriyaki Sauce and Wicked Asian Style BBQ Sauce.

Culinary Movement

“Plant-based/Vegan food is the biggest culinary movement this century and finding a good choice of complementary sauces as part of a high street shop has not been that easy," commented Derek Sarno, Tesco's director of plant-based innovation.

“Now we’ve helped the growing need of plant-based food shoppers and those looking to reduce eating animals by creating an easy to use ‘kitchen toolbox’ of a recognisable range of unique, vegan amazing sauces."

The new products are part of a wider plant-based food launch this month, which will see 30 more products, including wraps, sandwiches, seasonings and dressings hit Tesco stores.

“Tesco was among the first supermarkets to launch a ready-made vegan lunch range and is now leading the way in terms of vegan condiments, a sector neglected by other retailers," said Dominika Piasecka, spokeswoman for The Vegan Society.
