UCC Coffee UK & Ireland Generates Over £1m In Fairtrade Premium Funds

UCC Coffee UK & Ireland generated £1,099,600 in Fairtrade premium funds during 2020, which will help support over 600 farming communities around the world.

In 25 years, businesses have contributed over €84 million by supplying Fairtrade coffee.

These vital funds provide a lifeline – particularly during crises such as COVID-19 – and help farmers become more resilient to climate change, educate their children, promote fairer conditions, and improve communities.

Elaine Swift, regional director (North), UCC Europe, commented, "We are so proud to have generated such a fantastic premium in 2020. It has been an incredibly challenging year for all. Coffee is one of the most significant products within Fairtrade, and the future of our industry depends on its supply.

"Fairtrade is a vote for people and planet, and it is so important to give back to those who make this all possible. We would like to thank our customers for their ongoing support, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Fairtrade into 2021 and beyond."

UCC Coffee partners with several sustainable organisations, including Fairtrade, to source 100% traceable to the origin, sustainable coffees from farms and cooperatives around the world.

This week marks the beginning of Fairtrade Fortnight (22 February – 7 March 2021) – the biggest date in the Fairtrade calendar.

The annual campaign raises awareness about Fairtrade products and will see businesses around the UK come together to support and strengthen environmental and climate protection for farmers and workers.

Fairtrade International is a non-profit, multi-stakeholder association that promotes fairer conditions for international trade, empowers small-scale farmers and workers, and fosters sustainable livelihoods.
