Veropoulos Rolls Out New Store Concept In Serbia

Greek retail group Veropoulos is rolling out a new store concept for its Super Vero hypermarkets in Serbia.

Following the re-opening of two stores last year, remodeling work has now been completed on the retailer’s store in New Belgrade, which first opened 15 years ago.

The store has 5,800 square metres of retail space and features an assortment of around 45,000 products, of which more than 400 are sourced from Greece, both food and non-food.

An estimated €3.5 million was invested in the project, with the store boasting an extended fresh offering, a redesigned butcher department, and a wider range of ready-to-eat dishes, with greater focus on Mediterranean cuisine.

This is also the first Super Vero store to feature a bistro, where shoppers can purchase a cooked meal and enjoy it in-store.

Work on the design and the new store concept was undertaken Schweitzer Group.

Hypermarket Presence

Veropoulos has six hypermarkets in Serbia, all in Belgrade, and the remaining three are scheduled to be remodeled by the end of 2019.

In an interview to Retail Magazin, CEO Marc Ernest Garofani said he sees plenty of room for new investments in the retail market in Serbia.

Garofani stressed that the priority is to remodel existing stores, although Veropoulos also plans further growth in Serbia, both through organic growth and through the opening of new stores. However, he pointed out that the local market should be viewed as two separate parts – Belgrade and the rest of Serbia.

According to Garofani, Belgrade is a very competitive market, while in some parts of Serbia, revenues and customer habits can vary, “so it is necessary to have a good knowledge of the opportunities to plan expansion in those regions”.
