Walmart Opens 'Case-Ready' Meat Facility In Thomasville

Walmart has announced that it has opened a state-of-the-art meatpacking and processing facility for Angus beef in Thomasville, Georgia, USA.

The facility is part of the retailer's new Angus beef supply chain, responsible for distributing a selection of Angus beef cuts, such as steaks and roasts to 500 Walmart stores in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida.

The plant, operated by FPL foods, is spread across an area of 201,000 square feet and will create 200 new jobs.

'A Perfect Example'

Senior vice president for Meat at Walmart US, Scott Neal, said, "Our new Angus beef supply chain is a perfect example of Walmart’s dedication to bringing customers high-quality food at a great price."

"By enlisting a number of top companies to take part in our Angus beef supply chain, including FLP foods, [...] we will be able to provide customers with unprecedented transparency throughout the supply chain and leverage the learning we gain across our business.”

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp inaugurated the facility, along with Walmart executives.

'Vote Of Confidence'

"Walmart has a long history in Georgia, I am thrilled that the company selected Thomasville as the location for this facility," Kemp said.

"It’s a vote of confidence in our state, in the South Georgia region and the Thomasville community, and great news for those employees and their families."

The retail giant is also working with other 'best-in-class' suppliers on its Angus Beef supply chain.
