Ahold Delhaize Opens New Coffee Roasting Facility

Ahold Delhaize has opened a new roasting facility at its Zaandam coffee production site, which the company said 'underscores its ambition to further strengthen and innovate its own-brand coffee offering'.

The site, which is operated by the group's Ahold Delhaize Coffee Company arm, produces coffee brands including Perla, Delhaize, Latitude 28 and Caffé Gondoliere, and celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.

The new facility will also help to reduce the company's climate footprint, with a 14% reduction in energy consumption, 13% reduction on carbon emissions and cutting the output of particulate matter by 99%.

Sustainability Measures

It follows on from a number of sustainability initiatives undertaken by the business in recent years, including moving to fully recyclable packaging, and generating electricity through 1,500 solar panels on its factory roof.

Ahold Delhaize Coffee Company was founded by Albert Heijn in 1895, and today produces 19,000 metric tonnes of coffee on a yearly basis, an equivalent of more than 3 billion cups of coffee, of which 40% is sold to third-party retailers and wholesalers in Europe.
