Auchan To Develop Major Logistics Facility In Russia

To support its ongoing expansion into Russia, Auchan is to construct what it says is largest supply chain centre in Europe to be used by a single company, which will be able to load and unload 230 trucks at one time.

The facility, located in Domodedovo, which will cover 138,000 square metres of floor space, will greatly expand the retailer’s capacity for distribution in the Moscow area, where it will serve 50 hypermarkets.

It will cost approximately six billion roubles to develop, and generate 750 jobs, KamCity.com says.

“During the first stage, we plan to build infrastructure for a warehousing centre that will allow us to expand it in the future,” said Oleg Alkhamov, chief executive for hypermarkets at Auchan Retail Russia.
