Carrefour Opens Fifth Logistics Hub In China

Carrefour has opened a 21,000-square-metre logistics hub in Dongguan, Guangdong, China  in order to aid the retailer in its south-China expansion project.

The new facility is the fifth supply chain plant opened by Carrefour in China. It will support Carrefour outlets in the provinces of Guangdong, Hainan and Fujian, while a sixth facility is scheduled to open in the middle of June.

ChinaDaily.com quotes Thierry Garnier, president and chief executive officer of Carrefour for the Asian nation, as saying, "Launching the distribution centre will be of key importance to a long-term strategic development in China.

"Carrefour China is transformed into a 'multi-format' and 'multi-channel' business, following a new development strategy introduced last year.

"We will open more hypermarkets in central and western regions of China, thanks to China's large population and fast urbanisation, and launch more convenience stores, or community stores, in big cities in the near future.”
