Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil A Popular Choice With Consumers

Consumer demand for rapeseed oil shows no signs of abating in 2015. The news that stocks of seven oilseeds are likely to continue to rise to a record in 2015 is welcomed by the supermarket industry. Last winter, industry analyst Oil World predicted that the harvests of seven major oilseeds would climb to 509.5 million tons in 2014-2015 from 490.4 million tons.

Oilseed ending stocks are forecast to climb to 100.6 million tons at the end of 2014-15, a dramatic rise from the 84.1 million tons recorded a year earlier, according to data from Oil World. Cold pressed rapeseed oil continues to grow in popularity by those who appreciate its culinary and health properties.  Farrington Oils, founded by Duncan Farrington in 2005, was Britain’s first seed-to-bottle producer of cold pressed rapeseed oil. Grown to LEAF marque standards on the family farm in Northamptonshire, the company has won many awards for its products and innovation. Farrington identified the opportunity to develop a cold pressed rapeseed oil in the 1990s while researching his thesis.  "A traditional method of pressing oil, cold pressing ensures the natural health properties and taste of the oil are retained. Rapeseed oil performs better than olive oil in high temperature cooking, as well as being half the saturated fat," he said. "I knew there was a good opportunity to turn my crops into a quality culinary oil that competes with the best," he told ESM. Farrington’s Mellow Yellow celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year. The decision to grow and produce the brand of cold pressed rapeseed oil to the LEAF marque standard - the highest environmental standards, raises the bar of British-produced culinary oils, he says. The range is completely free from additives and is Vegetarian Society accredited and Coeliac UK approved. Farrington’s received its first Gold Taste award for the oil in 2006, with the latest Gold Star awarded last year. “We are a small farm producer and we have focused on quality and growing sustainably. We will continue to produce a high-quality product that is accessible to everyone.
