Coop Switzerland Targets Increased Profits On Free-From Products

Coop Switzerland announced that the company is aiming to increase turnover on Free-From goods by almost two thirds.

"The goal is to reach CHF 250 million (€233.3 million) in revenue by 2020", claimed the retailer's head of fresh produce, Roland Frefel.

Last year, turnover in this category amounted to CHF 160 million (€149.3 million).

Coop Switzerland is the leading national retailer in terms of the range of products stocked for people suffering from food intolerance, featuring 400 items that are without gluten, lactose and other allergens. One in five Coop customers regularly buy these products.

Over three million people in Switzerland suffer from an allergy or food intolerance.

Accreditation From Swiss Allergy Label

The retailer has also obtained certification from Service Allergie Suisse for 126 food, cosmetics and hygiene items, providing a clear declaration of allergens on the packaging.

This year alone, more than 70 new products will get the Swiss Allergy Label, and their number should grow to more than 200 by the end of 2017.

Besides 'Free-From' products, the label has also been recently introduced on gluten-free and lactose-free products on Coop’s private label brands such as Naturaplan and Betty Bossi.

Coop Switzerland also offers recipes, newsletters and various other services for people with food intolerance.
